On December 30th, the U.S. Embassy shared a video message of New Year greetings for 2025 from Ambassador Marc Knapper. He used entirely Vietnamese to highlight the achievements in Vietnam-U.S. relations in 2024.

The U.S. Ambassador reviewed highlights of Vietnam - U.S. relations in 2024 and wished a happy new year 2025.  

According to the Ambassador, 2024 is a meaningful year for the relationship between Vietnam and the U.S. We have achieved important milestones, strengthened our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and built a future of shared prosperity and security.

Ambassador Marc Knapper stated that the relationship between Vietnam and the U.S. has made transformative strides. Over the past decade, trade between the two countries has quadrupled, rising from 30 billion USD to over 120 billion USD. The U.S. Agricultural Delegation made its largest-ever visit to Vietnam. The U.S. transferred the first five T-6C training aircraft to Vietnam and announced a 12.5 million USD commitment to enhance maritime safety as part of Washington’s pledge to regional peace and security. Cooperation opportunities are opening up on both sides of the Pacific.

The U.S. is also proud to support Vietnam in its green transition with the approval of the Direct Power Purchase Agreement, which helps businesses purchase clean electricity directly from renewable energy producers. Additionally, through the Coastal Habitat Conservation project, Mekong Delta and initiatives such as promoting environmentally friendly agricultural methods.

According to the Ambassador, educational cooperation between Vietnam and the U.S. has also achieved many successes.

In addition, last year, the U.S. also participated in supporting Vietnam in overcoming the consequences of war and dealing with natural disasters, especially Typhoon Yagi.

Ambassador Marc Knapper: “As we look ahead and celebrate 30 years of U.S.-Vietnam relations in 2025, I am confident that our partnership will continue to thrive.  Together, we will seize new opportunities, address global challenges, and build a future that is prosperous, stable, and secure for all."
