TCVM - The dialogue reflects sustained commitment by both countries to deepening trust, addressing regional challenges, and strengthening cooperation in a free and open Indo-Pacific.

Washington, D.C., December 18, 2025 - Senior officials from the United States and Vietnam convened in Washington, D.C. on December 18 for the Fourteenth U.S.-Vietnam Political, Security, and Defense Dialogue, reaffirming the two countries’ shared commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation amid evolving regional security challenges.

The dialogue was co-chaired by Senior Bureau Official for Political-Military Affairs Fleet White, who welcomed Vietnamese Vice Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang to the U.S. capital. During the meeting, both sides held in-depth discussions on security cooperation and key regional issues, underscoring the importance of sustained dialogue in strengthening mutual understanding and strategic trust.

The U.S. delegation included representatives from the Department of State’s Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, as well as senior officials from the Department of Defense. Building on the outcomes of the 2024 dialogue and the Vietnam-U.S. Defense Policy Dialogue held earlier this year in Hanoi, participants reviewed progress made and explored avenues for further cooperation.

Officials from both countries highlighted the growing breadth and depth of the bilateral relationship, noting that regular high-level dialogues play a crucial role in reinforcing political trust and enhancing practical cooperation in security and defense. The discussions also reflected the United States’ continued commitment to working closely with Vietnam and other partners to uphold peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.

The dialogue reaffirmed the shared vision of the United States and Vietnam for a free and open Indo-Pacific, where cooperation, respect for international law, and strong partnerships form the foundation for long-term security and economic growth. Both sides expressed confidence that continued engagement through established mechanisms would further strengthen bilateral ties and contribute positively to regional stability.

The Fourteenth Political, Security, and Defense Dialogue marks another step forward in the evolving U.S.-Vietnam partnership, demonstrating the importance both nations place on open communication and collaboration in addressing common challenges.
