U.S. Mission to Vietnam in partnership with STEAM for Vietnam, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, along with the Vietnam Innovation of General Education Foundation (VIGEF) and Scratch Foundation, successfully organized the closing event "Train the Trainers 2024 - Demo Day: Activate AI Mode - Welcoming the New School Year" at various schools nationwide such as Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Edison Inter-Level School (Hung Yen), Hoang Van Thu Secondary School (Lang Son), STEAM Park Education Experience Center (Nghe An), FPT Elementary, Middle, and High School (Da Nang), An Thoi 2 Primary & Secondary School (Kien Giang) and others.

This event marked an important milestone in applying Generative AI (Gen AI) in education in Vietnam, providing teachers across the country with the opportunity to showcase creative and unique teaching products to develop thousands of secondary and high school students’ knowledge of computational thinking and inspire them to become engineers in the future.

Impressive Numbers

With over 8,000 applications for the program, along with 15 instructors and advisors and 10 outstanding final projects, the event garnered widespread attention from the Vietnamese education community.

Teachers submitted 827 projects, showcasing their creativity and dedication in applying Generative AI in their lesson plans. The event took place at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, along with 10 online and offline locations, with teachers joining from numerous schools throughout Vietnam.

Special Guests

The event was honored to welcome special guests such as Ms. Mary Beth Polley – Counselor for Public Affairs at the United States Embassy in Hanoi, Dr. Nguyễn Minh Đức - Director General of the Department of Teachers and Educational Administrators (Ministry of Education and Training), and Dr. Trương Công Tuấn - Director of the Center for Innovation and Student Entrepreneurship, Hanoi University of Science and Technology. They shared valuable insights and inspired the participating teachers.

Dr. Nguyễn Minh Đức shared:

"The Ministry of Education and Training will always be ready to collaborate with STEAM for Vietnam and other organizations in applying technological advancements to education, including the use of artificial intelligence for this purpose.

The Ministry looks forward to working directly with STEAM for Vietnam in the near future to discuss plans to expand training activities for teachers on using Generative AI in teaching, as well as to promote the 10 sample lessons and specific products ed today, by adding them to the Ministry's digital repository to help teachers nationwide access and reference them in their activities."

Shares from Pioneering Teachers in AI Application in Education

Mr. Khuất Đăng Khoa, Principal of Hai Bà Trưng High School (Thạch Thất), one of the two outstanding teachers who won the special award and will have the opportunity to visit the U.S. for further learning and development, expressed that he finds using Generative AI to be extremely convenient and effective in tasks such as reporting and teaching.

He hopes that in the near future, all teachers will be able to utilize AI effectively in their curriculum development.

Mr. Trần Việt Hùng, Founder of STEAM for Vietnam and representative of the Organizing Committee, stated: "First of all, on behalf of STEAM for Vietnam, I would like to congratulate over 8,000 teachers who completed the Train the Trainers course, and especially congratulate the 10 outstanding projects ed to be presented today.

On behalf of STEAM for Vietnam and all our partners, we are delighted and proud of the remarkable results of this course. The pioneering teachers have successfully taken the bold step of boarding the Generative AI train, proving that our Vietnamese teaching community can keep pace with the world in this technological wave. Today marks an extremely important milestone."

Mr. Hùng also expressed his heartfelt thanks to the U.S. Mission in Vietnam, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the Scratch Foundation, the Vietnam Education Innovation Support Foundation, as well as the encouragement and support of the Ministry of Education and Training. He emphasized that Train the Trainers 2024 is the world's first program to implement large-scale Generative AI training for teachers at a national level.

Remarks from the U.S. Mission in Vietnam

She highlighted their significant contributions in building a vibrant STEAM community that is leading the way in integrating AI into education.

The teachers have played a remarkable role in positioning Vietnam as a high-tech economy and preparing Vietnamese students to become future global leaders.

Finally, Ms. Mary Beth Polley also extended her thanks to the program's partners for their collaboration in bringing technological applications to education in Vietnam. The U.S. Embassy in Vietnam is honored to have co-organized this program alongside its partners.

Train the Trainers - AI Summer Camp, initiated by STEAM for Vietnam, is one of the first nationwide AI courses for teachers. The course aims to pioneer the integration of AI into education, enabling teachers to apply practical AI applications in the classroom, such as lesson planning, grading, and lecture creation.

The program consists of 8 lectures and is held online every Sunday from June to August 2024. Additional support activities for teachers, educational organizations, and educators will continue throughout the year with the STEAMese Festival 2024 scheduled for October 2024;

the Southeast Asia Scratch Educator Meetup 2024 in October 2024; and a series of workshops on AI applications in the teaching community from 2024 to 2025.
