On the evening of July, 28, 2020, the National External Information Service Award, organized by Steering Committee for External Information, the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education, and Vietnam Television (VTV) was held at the Hanoi Opera House. The award aims to recognize and honor the outstanding press and media works involving valuable external information.

Madam Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Chairwoman of the National Assembly and Mr. Vo Van Thuong - member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department, Head of the Central External Information Steering Committee, along with many leaders of the Ministries and general editors, representatives of the news agencies, publications and the awarded winners attended the ceremony.

According to the Organizing Committee, this year, the award has received 1,331 entries written in 17 languages,  which increases by 37% over the previous year, including: Printed newspaper, electronic newspaper; broadcast; television; images; books; video clips and innovative initiatives, ideas of valuable external information. This is also the first year the contest received articles from foreign authors. The Organizing Committee has ed 175 outstanding works to recognize at the ceremony. 

National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan congratulated to the success of the awards and sent her regards to the winners and the committee for constructive contribution.

The Chairwoman said that by attracting more than 1,300 works in 17 languages, the award has demonstrated its prestige and influence as well as the efforts of the organizers, especially in the context of COVID-19 pandemic having serious effects on the socio-economic activities both in domestic and on global scale. More remarkably, the entrants of the award were getting more and more diverse witnessing the highest number of works from foreign authors this year. 

At the awards ceremony, the Organizing Committee has awarded 18 first prizes, 33 second prizes, 44 third prizes and 80 consolation prizes for the following: Electronic newspaper, Vietnamese electronic information website; foreign language newspapers; Image; Vietnamese printed newspaper; TV; Video clip; Electronic newspapers, foreign language information websites; Press photos and Books.

Among the entries, the article "Việt Nam đầy ngạc nhiên và thú vị trong suy nghĩ của một người Mỹ" by author Mark A. Ashwill won the second prize. The work is considered as a high-quality professional article, portraying the fresh and objective views of an American who has lived and worked in Vietnam for a long time, affirming Vietnam's prestige and position in the international community in general and in the Cooperation and friendship relationship between Vietnam and the US in particular. 

This is the second consecutive year that Việt - Mỹ Magazine won a prestigious award exclusively for people working in the external information field.

This is also a solid evidence for the considerable efforts of the Magazine throughout the year by publishing favourable articles, in order to gain the trust from loyal readers that later become excellent authors who accompany together with the magazine to retrieve encouraging results.

In the upcoming year, the Magazine will actively "turn challenges into opportunities by using valuable information from the COVID-19 prevention campaign to further promote the image of Vietnam and the Vietnam - US cooperate relationship to the world.

2020 also celebrates the 25th anniversary of the normalization of Vietnam - US relations. Today’s prize will be the motivation for Việt - Mỹ magazine to continue improving quality to keep serving the readers better contents in the foreign affairs area and in Vietnam - US relationship.
